Argument 1 — Why did Jesus have to die?

by Miko Bartek

This is the first of many proofs that Jesus did not die for our sins. This is both a logical and a moral argument.

Assumptions: God exists and God is moral.

When a god behaves in inexplicable ways and does evil things, it is evidence that the god in question is not God. If God is moral, then God would not do immoral things. Therefore, the god in question must be mythical instead of real. Only mythical gods behave in immoral ways, because mythical gods are made by people. We all have our flaws, and so do our gods.

Assertion: God the Father is an immoral god.

Argument: Why did Jesus need to die for our sins? Why did Jesus need to be crucified? What purpose does this serve in the Father’s divine plans?

Ostensibly, Jesus died so that God the Father could forgive us for our sins. But, if this were the case, what prevented the Father from forgiving us before Jesus died? Something was holding the Father back. Perhaps it was emotions like anger and rage. But if something was holding the Father back, then God the Father is not all-powerful, because the Father is not in control.

If God the Father wanted to forgive us for our sins, why did he not do just that? Why did God the Father need Jesus to be crucified before he could forgive us? Why did he have his own son murdered? These are not the actions of a moral God. I have to conclude that these are the actions if a fictional god.

God the Father — the god of the Old Testament — had God the Son put to death because he could not forgive us until Jesus died. But if God the Father were moral, he would not have needed for someone to be killed in order to forgive us. Because the Father is clearly not moral, the Father cannot be God.

If we need God’s forgiveness, and God wants to forgive us, then God would forgive us. There would be no need to have a son in order to have the son murdered. The death of Jesus served no rational purpose.

As you can see, Jesus did not actually die for our sins. It turns out that Jesus died for no good reason.

Q.E.D.

In order to contest this argument, you need to defend the actions of God the Father. Please explain why Jesus needed to die. Justify the actions of the Father. Give a moral justification for having Jesus crucified. Make the death of Christ make sense.
